The "Find A Grave" memorial page for Jacob, Sr. and Alcy/Alice Keckley says they settled on "North Mountain" in Frederick County, VA sometime prior to 1744. This is more accurately called Great North Mountain, a 50-mile long ridge along the VA-WV border that ends in Frederick County. Their grave marker is in the Saint John's Lutheran Church cemetery near Hayfield, VA.
The memorial page also says their log homestead, circa 1750's, eventually became the "old Shawnee land lodge". This interesting reference means that the cabin was located in the current-day Shawneeland residential community. Shawneeland was developed as a resort and recreational community in the late 1950's with ski slopes, a lake and other amenities. The old "Jacob Keckley" cabin was transformed into "Tecumseh Lodge" for the residents in 1956. The lodge was torn down in 1992. Various maps of the Shawneeland resort show the location of the lodge on the west side of the arrowhead-shaped lake, at the end of the dog-leg driveway off Tom-Tom Trail. See Google map of the location. The Tecumseh Lodge was known for having a stream running through its basement. Note that the Google map of Shawneeland shows Keckley Run, a stream running right past the location of the cabin into the two small lakes. In his will, dated Aug. 1, 1781, Jacob gave a total of 388 acres to his 3 eldest sons, John, Jacob, Jr., and Valentine, with the house going to Jacob, Jr. To Elias, his fourth son and my ancestor, he gave 30 pounds of "hard specie" silver or gold (coin) and four sheep to be delivered one year after his death. Additional and supporting information about Jacob, Sr., Alice and their descendants in VA and WV can be found in a family history article on the first 4 Kackley generations in Virginia written by Wilmer L. Kern, Ph.D. in 1983. (Kern, Wilmer, L. "Family History - the Kackley Family." The West Virginia Advocate, [Capon Bridge], 7 Nov. 1983, p. 10-12. Dr. Kern wrote articles on the history of many Virginia and West Virginia families, published in the West Virginia Advocate newspaper, and authored at least 36 books on various topics in genealogy and American history.
